What Are the Active Ingredients of Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer?
The active substance of Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer is Lambda-Cyhalothrin (0.5%) – an insecticide registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1988.Lambda-cyhalothrin disrupt the normal functioning of the nervous system in an organism.
By disrupting the nervous system of insects, lambda-cyhalothrin may cause paralysis or death.
The active substance of Spectracide Baiting Stakes is Hexaflumuron (0.50%) – a termiticide first registered in the United States in 1994.
Hexaflumuron is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that works by stopping the insect’s growth.

Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer Review of a Line
Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer line is represented in the form of concentrate, baiting stakes, foam, sprayer and foaming aerosol.
Concentrate – kills destructive termites and carpenter ants on contact. It also controls nuisance pests for up to 8 weeks. Provides effective control of other nuisance and wood-destroying insects including ants, carpenter beetles, and wood-boring beetles including powder-post beetles.
Accushot™ Sprayer – protect against wood-destroying insects, such as termites and carpenter ants.
The product contains a battery-powered sprayer that makes it possible to treat large areas in minutes.Kills wood-destroying insects on contact and provides up to 9 months of control indoors against carpenter ants.
Foam (aerosol) – contains a special nozzle that directs the spray foam into hard-to-get spaces. The foam can be used indoors or outdoors (the non-staining formula leaves no odor). The foam kills exposed drywood, dampwood, subterranean termites and carpenter bees on contact.
Baiting stakes – work on the principle of “termite baiting”. When subterranean termites eat the stake (contains cellulose with poison), foraging termites “bring” the substance to the colony to feed the other members, so they also die.
What Form of Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer is The Best?
All products of the Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer line are designated for killing dangerous pests in different areas of a house and yard.
Baiting stakes are installed into the ground and provide long-lasting protection of a structure. But to note the effect one can wait up to 4 months. Never used as sole protection product against termites.
The concentrate should be mixed with water and filled in tank sprayer. Efficient consumption.
It is perfect for treating wood surfaces such as voids and tunnels in damaged wood, behind veneers, structural voids, along cracks, along crawl spaces and around outside buildings, porches, woodpiles, wooden fences and decks.
Kill termites on contact.
Foam (aerosol) does for spot or crack-and-crevice treatments only, for indoor and outdoor usage, non-staining formula. Special nozzle directs spray, treating areas that are hard to reach.
Accushot™ Sprayer is the concentrate with battery-powered sprayer that is very useful for hard-to-get spaces treatment or treatment of large areas. Long-lasting protection against ants (up to 9 months).
Recommendation: to get the full protection of your house against wood-eating pests, use several types of termicides from Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer line, for example baiting stakes for outdoor control and foam for treating voids and other exposed surfaces. Also, you can combine baiting stakes with spectracide carpenter ant and termite killer concentrate to treat the house along basement as well as other wooden structures.

Spectracide Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer Application Instruction
Spectracide carpenter ant and termite killer mixing instructions.
Concentrate: mix 71⁄2 fl oz with enough water to make 1 gallon. Fill the mixture into tank sprayer. Treat infested areas and areas likely to be infested (wood structures, voids and tunnels in damaged wood, behind veneers, in structural voids, along cracks, along crawl spaces and along outside buildings, porches, patios, wooden fences and decks).Foam (aerosol): shake the bottle before using. Push extension tube into nozzle located above the trigger and remove safety tab. Slowly pull trigger to dispense foam. Apply evenly, avoiding runoff and dripping.
Advice: treat the same areas as for the spectracide termite and ant control concentrate.Stakes: Gather together all kit items.
Figure out the number of stakes needed for your structure.
Prepare the soil for Spectracide Terminate Termite Detection and Killing Stakes installation and prepare a drawing of your outside house using graph paper.
Install the stakes. Monitor the stakes and wait till they are “eaten up”. Note the installation date and stakes location on your drawing.
Accushot™ Sprayer: Press the trigger to spray. Release the trigger to stop spray. Apply a continuous band of insecticide around the building’s foundation and around windows, doors, utility line entrances, eaves, vents and other areas to reduce the potential for entry by crawling pests.
Apply the band up to 3 ft wide around the structure and upward along the foundation to 3 ft and around windows, doors and roof overhangs. Apply as a coarse spray to thoroughly and uniformly wet the foundation and/or band area so that the insecticide will reach the soil or thatch level where pests may be active.

Are All Products Highly Effective? How Fast Do They Kill Pests?
The maximum performance of products is achieved in combination. Spray, foam and concentrate kill pests on contact and some of them provide up to 9 months’ protection against ants.
Stakes work slowly: termites need from 1 to 4 months (sometimes more) to eat out the stake and “bring” the poison to the colony (the effectiveness depends on weather, time of year, type of termite).
Warning! As it is said by the manufacturer, stakes are not recommended as sole protection against termites and for active infestations one should get a professional inspection. All products kill subterranean termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees and other wood-eating insects. Low effectiveness against Formosan termites.
Stakes are designated for soil treatment, other products are for treating infested areas and areas likely to be infested (wood structures, voids and tunnels in damaged wood, behind veneers, in structural voids, along cracks, along crawl spaces and along outside buildings, porches, patios, wooden fences and decks).
Safety Tips
Be careful! Never touch the substance with your bare hands. Use protective gloves and glasses. Wash clothes after treatment. Wash your hands and face with soap and water. Never eat, drink or smoke during the treatment!Hexaflumuron (active ingredient of stakes) is low-toxic termicide to human and mammals, though it is harmful if absorbed through skin.
A lambda-cyhalothrin (active ingredient of spray, foam and concentrate) is moderately toxic when inhaled and very low in toxicity for skin effects. The U.S. EPA categorizes lambda-cyhalothrin as moderately toxic for eye effects.
First Aid
If on skin or clothing: take off contaminated clothing. Immediately rinse skin with soap and water for 15-20 minutes. Visit a doctor or call Poison Control Center.
If in eyes: immediately wash eyes with water for 5-10 minutes. Visit a doctor or call Poison Control Center.
