There are many ways of killing termites in our modern world.
Natural and unnatural repellents, thermal regulation, flooding, more unpopular methods and baiting.
When you walk on the street, while passing by someone’s house, you may quite often spot underground stations filled with pesticides/baiting material.
Maybe even near schools and in parks.

This method of controlling termite population is very popular for many reasons. The most important are:
- Can be used passively.
- Mostly non-toxic.
- Good long-term decision.
But there are many baits out there. Just as with, let’s say, fishing, there are different types of worms, bread, or even plastic/metal baits. And every single one of them fit for a variety of fish. There’s no effective bait for everything.
Not only this, but some are more or less expensive than the other and some are just more/less convenient to use. Same goes for termite baiting systems. There are quite a few companies, each one making their products for particular circumstances. Currently, the most popular systems go by the names of:
- “Exterra”.
- “Firstline”.
- “Sentricon”.
- “Nemesis”.
and some others.
They provide your territory the highest quality defense, and the least amount of worries for a reasonable price. Below, you will get all the necessary knowledge about Nemesis termite monitoring and baiting system, how to use it, what do you need to know before using the system and more.Learn more about subterranean termites: signs of their activity; best methods of treatment and DIY methods. Nemesis Termite Bait System
“Nemesis”, just like “Firstline”, can be bought in a kit, containing 24 +/- baiting stations and wooden termite detectors for around 250 to 300 USD. As “Nemesis” products are not fully applicable for do-it-yourself use, there’s not a huge variety of them.
Yes, you can buy them and build the defense yourself, though it is not recommended in any way. Anyway, how does this thing work?
Well, just like many other systems, for detection you use special wooden cartridges filled with poison, chlorfluazuron, and inspect them regularly.
What the poison does is essentially stop the chitin layer rebuilding function inside the insects body, ending parasite’s life. So, when you discover the bait (wooden cartridge) being eaten, that means that termites are soon going to die… Probably…
So, as you may have guessed, the system doesn’t monitor termite population, nor it prevents them from coming. But when they do, and if they find the bait, they regret it.Good things about Nemesis termite control system are:
- Low toxicity.
- Easy bait replacement (just put in the new wooden cartridge).
- Effective in defending your house, as the termites are focused on you baits instead.
And bad things are quite obvious:
- Higher price than other pest-control methods.
- May require specialist help.
- They don’t prevent you from termites, nor they detect them and display it to you. And this is where the next point comes.
- Regular inspection required. Every couple of weeks you have to walk through your perimeter, opening and closing the hatches, checking for anything new. It can be very frustrating at times.

Kit’s decription
So, as stated before, you are not really supposed to be buying “Nemesis” for DIY operations, though mostly it is not prohibited.
Thus, most kits will include about 24 Nemesis termite bait stations, each with a number of wooden cartridges supplied for all your baiting needs.
And, as a utility an instrument to open the stations for examination.
When you’ve completely identified the problem (ask your pest-control service for help if you need it), installing process is quite the same for every system – place stations at the same interval around your perimeter, dig fitting holes for containers with wood, and in case you know where the parasite activity may be – place the baits close to that place.
For long-time use, if you need to mow a lawn, for example, be sure to position them accordingly (an inch below the ground level, for example).
Remember, that the stations use the same and only available lure, and, coincidentally, insecticide. It is supplied with the pack and can be bought as well. Even a baby can replace the timber cartridges inside the lure – you just put them in there and it is done. You don’t have to staple/weld/attach them to anything. Though it is good to put on gloves – just in case. Even if the insecticide used in there is close to being non-toxic, manipulating it will result in covering your hands in it. Hence it can be accidentally consumed which can lead to poisoning, depending on the amount.
Here you can learn more information about effective termite control remedies: Bora-Care, Boric acid, Borate, Fipronil, Chlorpyrifos, Chlordane, Borax, Timbor, Termidor, Terminator, Phantom, Lorsban, Biflex, Terro. You can choose different forms, such as – foam, liquid, powder.
Effectiveness
The “Nemesis” really succeeds in terms of effectiveness. Not only it doesn’t require to be inspected too often (bi-weekly or every three weeks), but also it will focus parasites on itself, distracting them from your house’s precious wooden walls, floors and foundation.
Considering it’s long-term use, the price is very reasonable. And it’s effect really depends on how you use it, what environment, time of year you find yourself in and finally which termites are you dealing with.
Although for obvious reasons (being submerged underground), “Nemesis” probably won’t deal with wooden termites, or termites that are already far inside your house’s walls.
An average time, required for killing off all the population of termites around your home is fluctuating a lot.
For example, when the best conditions are met (it is warm outside, termites are easy to deal with, you know where they are and there are not many of them) it may take from 2 to 3 months.
This is just how it is, and there’s nothing you can do to it.
Those annoying parasites do everything for their nest’s longevity. Though it’s certainly better to let special equipment deal with the problem itself, than using pesticides everywhere around your home, that require real practice and knowledge, and may even be very toxic. Well, of course it’s even better to give this job to specialists, but this is not what the article’s subject is about, is it?Useful articles
